Mississippi Gulf Coast kicked off the 2021 women's soccer season with a flash of offense and a splash of defense, beating Hinds 3-0 on Friday in Raymond.
"We played OK," Bulldogs coach Jackie Rhodes. "We were kind of sloppy the first half and make some changes in the second half so it was better. Overall, it's a win and we'll take that."
Alyssa Palisi (Fr., Diamondhead/Hancock) put the Bulldogs up 1-0 in the first half. Ashley Preston (So., Wiggins/Stone) and Hannah Salter (Fr., Olive Branch/Lewisburg) scored in the second half.
Katie Brown (Fr., Picayune/Home School) had a pair of assists.
That was more than enough for the Gulf Coast defense, which pitched a shutout.
Gulf Coast faces a nationally ranked opponent next Thursday. The Bulldogs travel to No. 2 Holmes.
"We've got four or five days to prepare for a really good team," Rhodes said. "That's our next objective."
