Lady Bulldogs humbled 14th-ranked Jones

RIDGELAND – Cariel Ellis scored off a loose ball in front of the net just 5:02 into the match and homestanding Holmes used that early momentum to run away with a 6-1 victory Tuesday morning at Freedom Ridge Park. 

Holmes improved to 2-0 on the young season while No. 14 Jones fell to 1-2.

Zoe Ellis and Ja'Laycia Brown added goals in the 11th and 34th minutes to give the Lady Bulldogs a 3-0 lead at the break.

Holmes continued to pile on in the second half, increasing its lead to 6-0 in the 87th minute.

Esmeralda Figueroa netted her team-leading third goal in the 88th minute to help JC avoid the shutout.

The Lady Bulldogs dominated with a 29-11 edge in shots (17-8 on goal) and drew 12 corners to the Bobcats' one.

JC will look to get back on track on Friday at 5 p.m., playing host to Gulf Coast to open south division play. The match will be streamed at JCJC.TV.
