No. 12 JC Lady Bobcats edge Pearl River, 2-1

ELLISVILLE – The 12th-ranked Jones College Lady Bobcats overcame a challenge from Pearl River here on a rainy Tuesday night at Bobcat Soccer Field.

Jones edged the Lady Wildcats 2-1 in a game that was delayed 35 minutes by lightning.

In the men's game, the Bobcats battled unbeaten Pearl River to the limit, but came up short, 2-0.

The Jones teams resume MACJC South Division play Friday at Meridian. Pearl River goes to East Central on Sunday.

The game was stopped at 22:51 of the first half because of lightning.

When play resumed, Aimee Durn (London, England) scored on a free kick from 35 yards off the wall at 23:00 to give Jones a 1-0 lead.

It remained that way until 63:35 when Mikayla Banks (Vicksburg) scored on an assist by Anna Grace Gieger (West Jones) to give the Lady Bobcats a 2-0 lead.

Pearl River's Rena Gordon put the ball in the net at 73:42 to trim the lead to 2-1. That was the first goal allowed all season by Jones.

The Lady Bobcats were able to hold on and remain unbeaten on the season.

Alexis Wilson (Long Beach) was in goal for the entire game for the Lady Bobcats.

Jones is 4-0 overall and 2-0 in division play.

Pearl River falls to 2-4 overall, 1-2 in the division.

Wildcats 2, Bobcats 0

Jones had its chances, but could never convert.

Pearl River took the lead when Bo Bowman scored on a Kealan Baggett assist at 33:29.

The Wildcats scored again with just over a minute to play at 88:37 when Jevaun Evans put the ball into the net and Mike Jimenez got the assist.

Callum Harley went the distance in goal for the Bobcats.

Jones is now 3-1 overall, 1-1 in the division.

Pearl River is 6-0 overall, 3-0 in division play.
