BOONEVILLE — Ja'Mia Hollings' 22-point, 19-rebound performance powered the Lady Lions of East Mississippi Community College to a dominating 59-39 road victory over Northeast Mississippi during Saturday's MACCC North Division women's basketball action played at Bonner Arnold Coliseum.
Rescheduled from a previous postponement due to COVID-19 concerns, the EMCC women were in total control throughout the makeup contest against the Lady Tigers. After mounting an 18-4 lead by the end of the opening quarter, the visitors maintained a 15-point (32-17) halftime advantage.
After the margin increased to 20 points (39-19) three minutes into the second stanza on a pair of Hollings free throws, the Lady Lions' cushion later expanded to a game-most 23 points (52-29) on a Hollings basket with seven minutes remaining in the contest.
Defensively for the game, EMCC limited the Lady Tigers to just 22 percent (13-59 FGs) shooting from the field while holding a 49-37 rebounding advantage.
Hollings' 19th career double-double (fourth this season) included a season-high 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field and 6-of-6 accuracy from the charity stripe. The West Point product also pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds, including eight offensive boards.
Freshman forward Siarra Jackson followed with 12 points off the EMCC bench on 3-of-3 field goals and 6-of-6 free throws.
The Northwest women were led by Kenzie Sharp's 12 points and six rebounds.
Coach Sharon Thompson's 5-3 EMCC Lady Lions will play host to the Lady Bulldogs of Holmes Community College Monday evening on the Scooba campus. Tip-off at EMCC's Keyes T. Currie Coliseum is set for 6 p.m.
