No. 9 Lady Bobcats 57, Lady Wildcats 48
POPLARVILLE – The 9th-ranked Jones College Lady Bobcats outscored Pearl River Community College 13-4 down the stretch and beat the Lady Wildcats 57-48 here Monday night at Marvin R. White Coliseum. Jones improves to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in the MACJC South Division.
Pearl River led for most of the game before the Lady Bobcats were able to take control in the game's final minutes.
The game was knotted at 36-36 entering the fourth quarter.
Destiny Hamer (Holmes County Central) hit a shot from the corner to give Jones a 44-41 lead with 5:15 to play. But PRCC's Elexis Payton answered with a 3-pointer to tie it at 44-44 with 4:29 to play.
LaMiracle Sims (Moss Point) then made a free throw to give the Lady Bobcats the lead for good at 45-44 with 4:19 remaining. A Breonca Ducksworth (West Jones) drive then made it 47-44.
After a Pearl River free throw, Sims would score for Jones. Keyara Jones (Heidelberg) then hit a 10-footer in the lane and followed that up with a clinching 3-pointer with 52.5 seconds left to put the Lady Bobcats ahead, 54-45.
PRCC led by as much as 15-10 in the first quarter and would lead 17-16 after the opening period. The Lady Wildcats' longest lead would be 26-18 midway through the second quarter and the home team held a 30-25 advantage at halftime.
The Lady Wildcats led 36-34 before Haymer's 12-footer at the buzzer tied it up at 36-36 after three quarters.
Haymer led the Lady Bobcats with 13 points. Keyara Jones had eight points and Kyia Weathersby (Collins) had eight points and nine rebounds.
Mychala Linzy had 15 points to lead Pearl River. The Lady Wildcats are 7-4 overall, 1-2 in the division.
