PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast continued to show its heart and hustle, rebounding from a double-digit first-quarter deficit in a 62-53 loss to Southwest.
The Lady Bulldogs (6-10, 0-7 MACJC South) were led by Shelli Thigpen (Fr, Wylie, Texas/Wylie) with 10 points. Azaria Howard (Fr, Richland/Richland) and Eanna Sims (So, Jackson/Forest Hill) had nine each.
Southwest improved to 13-3, 4-3.
The Lady Bulldogs were down 19-7 after the first quarter but immediately started the next with a 9-0 run. The deficit would swell back to 11 by halftime, but Gulf Coast got within four after a 6-0 run made the score 49-45 with 5:44 to play in the fourth.
The Lady Bulldogs are in action again Thursday when Hinds visits the Weathers/Wentzell Center. Tipoff in Perkinston is at 5:30 p.m.
