Coahoma Lady Tigers Fought Hard But Fall Short to Lady Bulldogs

GOODMAN– The Coahoma Lady Tigers continued to play tough in the MACJC North; stepping up on the road against Holmes Community College. The Lady Bulldogs made some big runs in the 1st and 2nd half to earn a 61-46 victory Thursday Night at Frank Branch Coliseum.

 

Coahoma came out with a great start. Walneika Holmes, Geneva Walker and Dzondria Young scored consecutive layups to take an early 8-2 lead. Holmes knocked down a pair of three-pointers extending the lead to 14-7. Holmes stopped the bleeding with a couple of layups by Jonja'Nay Spivey cutting the deficit to 14-9 ending the 1st quarter.

 

Nina Carpenter scored a driving layup for the Lady Bulldogs cutting the lead 14-12. Khiyee Robinson answered with a three-pointer extending the lead to 17-12. Holmes took charge of the game with a 22-0 run. Tyaira Wilson and Ja'Breonia Veasey scored a pair of layups giving Holmes a 34-17 lead.

 

Keyara Hinton stopped the bleeding with a three-pointer cutting the lead 34-20 at the half.

 

Holmes added on the lead 40-23 with a three-pointer by Aneisha Evans. Coahoma made things interesting when Walker and Holmes combined for five points cutting the lead to 40-28.

 

Holmes answered again with a pair of baskets by Spivey extending the lead 46-29. Coahoma made one more attempt to cut the lead further. Early in the fourth quarter, Walker and Robinson scored five straight points cutting the deficit to 49-38. Holmes puts the game away with a pair of layups by Brittany Webster and Wilson. They had a commanding lead 55-39.

 

Spivey led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 points and four rebounds. Carpenter finished with eight points and 13 rebounds. Webster scored eight points and six rebounds. Kamelia Lacy scored eight points, five rebounds, and four assists.

 

Coahoma had two players that scored in double figures. Walker led the Lady Tigers with 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Robinson finished with 11 points and three rebounds.

 

Coahoma goes to (2-13, 0-5 MACJC North) on the season. They will continue MACJC Northern Division action against Mississippi Delta Community College. The game is set for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at The Pinnacle.

 

It will be part of a doubleheader that's followed by Coahoma vs. Mississippi Delta men's game at 8:00 p.m.
