FULTON – The 9th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats had quite a battle with homestanding Itawamba Community College here Thursday night at the Davis Event Center.
JCJC rallied from a 17-4 first quarter deficit and defeated the Lady Indians, 75-71.
In the men's game, Itawamba posted an 80-66 decision.
Both Bobcat teams will not play during Thanksgiving week.
The Lady Bobcats will host Coastal Alabama-North at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 28. Both teams will entertain Shelton State (Alabama) on Nov. 30 with the women's game starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
Itawamba goes to Wallace Community College-Selma (Alabama) on Nov. 27.
Lady Bobcats 75, Lady Indians 71
Nique Cherry (Heidelberg) was one of the big stories for the Lady Bobcats, 3-0.
The East Carolina signee had 21 points and 23 rebounds to spark JCJC.
Ole Miss signee Alexis Tolefree (Conway, Arkansas) had 15 points, while Virginia Commonwealth University signee K.K. Tassin (Terry) added 10. Kira Bonner (Quitman) had 9, Zakyia Weathersby (Collins) and Chrystal Ezechukwu (Stone Mountain, Georgia) had 5 each, Camryn London (Birmingham, Alabama) and Breonca Ducksworth (West Jones) had 3 points each and Maya Jones (Northwest Rankin) added 2.
ICC led 22-11 after the first quarter, 39-32 at halftime and 59-56 after three quarters. JCJC then used a 14-3 run to start the fourth quarter and took a 70-62 lead with 5:20 left.
Shaniyah Buford led the Lady Indians, 3-2, with 17 points. Kaylyn Wilson had 5 points and 13 rebounds.
