Southwest Lady Bears defeat Delgado by 19

The Lady Bears moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 65-46 win over the visiting Delgado Lady Dolphins Thursday night.

A three-pointer from Danyelle Lewis gave the Lady Bears an 8-1 lead midway through the first quarter. After seeing the visitors close the gap to 10-8, the Lady Bears closed the quarter on a 7-0 run to hold a 17-8 lead after the first 10:00 of play.

Amari Pittman's trey with 8:27 left in the second quarter increased the Lady Bears' lead to 20-8. The Lady Dolphins then went on a 14-6 run to pull to within four points, 26-22, with 1:16 on the clock. Baskets from Keturah Bingham and Peyton Papenburg then gave the Lady Bears a 30-22 advantage at the end of the first half.

The third quarter belonged to the Lady Bears as they outscored the Lady Dolphins (0-3) 22-5. A Tootie Rankin three-pointer with 0:01 on the clock left the Lady Bears on top 52-27 with one quarter remaining.

The Lady Bears maintained their comfortable lead throughout the fourth quarter with the Lady Dolphins getting no closer than 17 points, 63-46, with under 1:00 to play.

Bingham turned in a double-double, with 12 points and 15 rebounds, to pace the Lady Bears to victory. Lewis was also in double figures with 10 points. The Lady Bears went 8-14 from the free throw line.

Tarralyn Moses scored 22 points for the Lady Dolphins to lead all scorers. She and her teammates hit 15 of 24 free throws.

The Lady Bears return to action Monday night in the first round of the annual Southwest/Coca-Cola Classic with a 5:30 contest against Baton Rouge Community College.
