Early Mistakes Cost Lady Tigers

SUMMIT –Coahoma Community College was looking for their first win of the season on Monday night in Summit, MS. The Lady Tigers had a shaky start to the game. Southwest Mississippi Community College took advantage of those mistakes in a 90-64 victory.

 

The Lady Bears (1-0) took an early 6-0 lead. Coahoma came back when Nikkeria Harris hit a jumper and Walneika Holmes hit a three pointer cutting the lead to 10-7.

 

Southwest answered when Jamaya Galloway scored on a pair of driving layups. They scored 11 of the final 16 points of the 1st quarter to hold a 21-12 lead.

 

The Lady Bears outscored the Lady Tigers 21-16 in the second quarter. Galloway scored three straight layups to give Southwest a 42-28 lead at the half.

 

Southwest had four players score in double figures. Danyelle Lewis and Amari Pittman led the Lady Bears with 15 points each. Keturah Bingham scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds. Galloway finished with 12 points, five assists, and three steals.

 

Holmes had an outstanding performance for the Lady Tigers with 33 points, six steals, and four assists. She scored 18 points in the first half.

 

Holmes was one of two players who scored in double figures for the Lady Tigers. Geneva Walker scored 12 points and had five rebounds.

 

Coahoma goes to 0-3 on the season. The Lady Tigers will have their home opener against Copiah-Lincoln Community College. The game is set for 6 p.m. this Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017 at the Pinnacle.

 

It will be part of a double header that's followed by Coahoma vs Copiah-Lincoln men's game at 8 p.m.
