Bobcats crush East Central 7-0 in MACJC quarterfinals

ELLISVILLE – The Jones College men's soccer team still has a chance to defend its 2018 MACJC championship. 

Jones was never threatened as it blitzed East Central 7-0 here Tuesday night at Bobcat Soccer Field in an MACJC quarterfinal matchup.

The Bobcats will now go to Hinds for the MACJC Tournament, which will be played on Saturday-Sunday at Tom Shepherd Field in Raymond. Jones will meet the host Eagles at 6 p.m. Saturday in a semifinal match. Pearl River meets the Itawamba/Mississippi Gulf Coast winner at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The men's title game will be at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Bobcats 7, Warriors 0

The Bobcats were dominant in their victory over the Warriors.

Peyton Ratcliff (Northwest Rankin) got Jones on the board at 12:39 on a free kick from 25 yards away. Justis Casey (Greene County) made it 2-0 with a score off a deflection at 23:27. Ratcliff's goal on a penalty kick at 44:34 gave the Bobcats a 3-0 lead going into halftime.

Itai Allen (Wolverhampton, England) made it 4-0 at 51:39. John Mark Rose (Jackson Prep) scored with Chris Dempsey (Belfast, Ireland) getting the assist at 63:59 to make it 5-0. Rose added his second goal at 69:51 and Dempsey's penalty kick at 89:05 ended the scoring.

Callum Harley (Whitney Bay, England) played 75:20 in goal and was credited with two saves. Johnny Lorenzo (George County) was in goal for the final 14:40.

Jones took 31 shots in the match, 18 shots on goal. ECCC had just six shots, two on goal. The Bobcats had seven corner kicks, compared to one for the Warriors.

The Bobcats are now 11-4 and have won seven straight games – five by shutout.

East Central ends the year at 12-6.
