POPLARVILLE – The Jones County Junior College soccer teams ended regular season play with a pair of losses to Pearl River here Tuesday evening.
In the women's game, the Lady Wildcats scored almost nine minutes into overtime and beat JCJC, 2-1. In the men's game, Pearl River edged the Bobcats, 3-2.
The Lady Bobcats, the MACJC South Division champion, will now participate in the MACJC/Region 23 Tournament Oct. 28-29 at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland.
JCJC will play the winner of the Oct. 24 first-round playoff game between Mississippi Gulf Coast and Itawamba at 5 p.m. on Oct. 28. The winner of that game will play in the championship game at 4 p.m. on Oct. 29.
Lady Wildcats 2, Lady Bobcats 1 (OT)
PRCC's game-winner came when Kaylee Fountain scored on a lengthy shot after an assist by Mia Richards.
The Lady Wildcats had taken a 1-0 lead at 24:45 when Abbi Henderson made a penalty kick.
JCJC tied the game at 1-1 at 81:23 when Mikayla Banks (Vicksburg) scored off an assist by Judith Verdaguer (Barcelona, Spain).
Mia Holmes (Brandon) played the first half in goal for JCJC and Caroline Runion (Madison Central) played the remainder of the game.
JCJC is now 8-2-1 and ends division play at 6-1-1.
Pearl River is 8-0-4 overall and finishes second in the division at 5-0-3. They will host Northwest on Oct. 24 in a first-round playoff game.
Wildcats 3, Bobcats 2
Jevaun Ennis scored all three of Pearl River's goals.
His goal at 15:43 gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. He scored again off a West Zimmerman assist at 19:42 to make it 2-0. His final goal came at 44:35 on a penalty kick.
The Bobcats got on the scoreboard at 48:10 on a penalty kick by Glenn Waters (Dungarvan, Ireland). JCJC made it 3-2 in the 83rd minute when Waters scored again off a Thomas Carlile (Athgarvan, Ireland) free kick.
Michael Godley (Starkville) was in goal for the Bobcats.
JCJC ends the year at 6-8-1, 2-6 in the division.
Pearl River, 8-5 overall and second in the division at 5-3, will host Hinds in a first-round playoff game on Oct. 24.
