TALLAHASSEE, Florida – The 4th-ranked Tallahassee Community College (Florida) Eagles overcame a 7-point first half deficit and defeated the Jones College Bobcats 78-66 here Saturday evening at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome in the first day of the Tallahassee DemocratClassic.
Jones had taken an 18-11 lead with 7:10 to play in the first half when Shardarrion Allen (Raymond) scored off an offensive rebound. But the Eagles outscored Jones 22-9 the remainder of the half and took a 33-27 lead at intermission.
Tallahassee scored the first seven points of the second half and would eventually take its longest lead of the game at 54-33 with 10:37 to play.
Winceton Edwards (Oak Grove) led the Bobcats with 18 points, including five 3-pointers. Kenneth Rogers (Starkville) had 17 points, including three 3-pointers. Tirus Smith (Petal) had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Allen finished the game with six points and 16 rebounds.
The Bobcats outrebounded the Eagles, 54-39.
Jalen Dalcourt had 18 points to lead Tallahassee.
Jones was 19-of-66 from the field (9-of-27 from 3-point range) for 29 percent. The Bobcats were 19-of-31 from the free throw line.
The Eagles were 30-of-66 from the floor (11-of-30 from 3-point range) for 46 percent. TCC was 7-of-14 from the foul line.
The Bobcats, 7-2, meet Pensacola State (Florida) at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the final day of the tournament.
Tallahassee, 16-0, faces Monroe College (New York) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
