Coahoma Tigers Comeback Falls Short Against Rangers

SENATOBIA– Coahoma Community College and Northwest Mississippi Community College became reacquainted on Thursday night's electrifying match-up. The Tigers came back from a 29 point deficit, but the Rangers made some big shots down the stretch securing a 96-86 victory.

 

Coahoma had a good start 5-4 with a three-pointer by Dykellius Grandberry. Northwest answered with a 10-0 run. Jitaurious Gordon and Clinton Moses scored a pair of layups extending the lead to 14-5.

 

Quintarius Boatman scored a pair of layups cutting the lead to 22-18. The Rangers answered with another 10-0 run. Radarious Washington scored a driving layup extending the lead to 32-18.

 

Northwest outscored Coahoma 27-16 in the last 8:55 in the first half. Joseph Coleman scored a driving layup closing out the 1st half. The Rangers takes a 59-34 lead at the half.

 

Coahoma came out firing in the second half. Boatman scored a driving layup cutting the deficit to 40-39. Northwest answered with another layup by Washington extending the lead to 68-44.

 

The Rangers had their biggest lead of the game at 77-48 with 12:14 remaining. The Tigers started to chip the Ranger's lead down all throughout the second half. Nkosi King gave Coahoma hope scoring a driving layup cutting the deficit to 87-77 with 2:48 remaining.

 

The Rangers put the game away with five straight points from Tremont Robinson. Justin Flakes scored a driving layup extending the lead to 94-77 with 1:14 remaining.

 

Northwest had five players that scored in double figures. Robinson led the Rangers with 30 points, three rebounds, seven assists, four steals and two blocks. Washington finished with 12 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Therrell Gosier scored 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Gordon finished with 10 points, two rebounds, six assists and three steals. Miles Washington scored 10 points, two rebounds and three blocks.

 

Coahoma had two players that scored in double figures. Malik Bailey led the Tigers with 32 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Boatman finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.

 

Coahoma goes to (3-18, 1-9 MACJC North) on the season. They will continue MACJC Northern Division action against Holmes Community College. The game is set for 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at The Pinnacle. It will be Coahoma's final home game of the season, and the graduating sophomores will be honored on Sophomore Night. It will be part of a doubleheader preceded by Coahoma vs. Holmes women's game at 6 p.m.
