Bailey Big Shot Gets Victory for Coahoma

CLARKDALE– The Coahoma Mighty Tigers faced many challenges all season long. This time they would have to get their first MACJC North win against their close rival Mississippi Delta Community College.

 

Coahoma was down most of the second half until Malik Bailey knocked down a fall away three pointer with three seconds left in the game. They forced Delta not to get a shot off in the last seconds to get a 77-76 victory Monday Night at The Pinnacle.

 

The Tigers had a great start leading 9-2 with a pair of three pointers by DeNori Berry. Then Dequon Morris gets the crowd jumping with a put back slam extending the lead to 13-5.

 

Mississippi Delta (7-10, 2-4 MACJC North) came back with a 10-2 run. Terrell Jennings scored a driving layup and three point play tying the game 15-15. Coahoma answers 17-15 with a layup by Robert Boyd.

 

Then the Trojans took control of the first half with a 16-3 run. Xa'vavier Jones scored two consecutive three pointers extending the lead to 38-22.

 

Coahoma gets back in the game with a three pointer by Bailey cutting the lead to 44-33 at the half.

 

Mississippi Delta had three players scoring in double figures. Jones led the Trojans with

23 points that includes 17 points in the first half. Deshaven Flowers scored 13 points and four rebounds. Jennings finished with 10 points and four rebounds.

 

Coahoma had four players scoring in double figures. Bailey led the Tigers with 20 points, two rebounds and two assists. Quintarius Boatman scored 17 points, four rebounds and six assists. Berry finished with 16 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Marcus Summerville scored 10 points, three rebounds and two steals.

 

 

 

Coahoma goes to (3-14, 1-5 MACJC North) on the season. They will continue MACJC Northern Division action against Northeast Mississippi Community College. The game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018 in Booneville, MS.

 

It will be part of a doubleheader preceded by Coahoma vs. Northeast Mississippi women's game at 5:30 p.m.
