WESSON – Ladamian Webb's 5-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter lifted 10th-rated Jones College to a 21-14 victory over Copiah-Lincoln here Saturday afternoon at Stone Stadium.

Webb's score broke a 14-14 tie.

Jones improves to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the MACJC South Division.

The Bobcats host East Central on Thursday in the final regular season game of the year. Jones must win that game and have top-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast defeat No. 6 Hinds in order to make the playoffs. If that happens, MGCCC would be first and Jones would be second.

If Hinds wins and Jones wins, then the Eagles would be first in the division and Gulf Coast would be second. Hinds, Gulf Coast and Jones would all be 5-1, but the Bobcats would be left out because of overall record – Hinds and MGCCC would be 8-1 and Jones 7-2.

If Hinds loses and Jones loses, then Hinds, Jones and East Central would each be 4-2. But the Eagles would get in because of overall record.

In Saturday's game, the Bobcats got 127 yards on 30 carries and a score from Webb and 34 yards on six carries and a score from Kalyn Grandberry (Memphis, Tennessee). Quarterback Fred Barnum (Warren Central) was 10-of-15 passing for 106 yards and a touchdown.

Natorian Watts (Petal) had three catches for 38 yards and Bud Tolbert (Water Valley) had one reception for 30 yards.

End Chei Hill (Miami, Florida) blocked a field goal attempt and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown. He also blocked an extra point, had three tackles and half a tackle for loss. Linebacker Kevon Cloyd (Columbia) had six tackles, one sack and one TFL and linebacker Kenderian Dixon (Yazoo County) had six tackles, one sack and two TFLs. Defensive backs Lakevias Daniel (Louisville), Mileon Graham (St. Martin) and linebacker DeLawrence Butler (Clinton) each had five tackles.

The Bobcats were credited with four sacks and nine TFLs.

Jones opened the game in fine fashion.

On its second possession, the Bobcats drove 72 yards in 11 plays with Grandberry scoring on a 7-yard run. Cristofer Thompson's (Adams County Christian School) extra point made it 7-0 with 6:38 to play in the first quarter.

The Wolves would then drive from its own 43-yard line to the Jones' 22. The drive stalled and Bryce Lofton would attempt a 39-yard field goal.

However, Hill came through with the block, picked up the ball and rambled 55 yards for the touchdown. Thompson's kick made it 14-0 with 14:37 left in the first half.

Co-Lin took the ensuing kickoff and put together a 75-yard, 13-play drive. Quarterback Danny Clark connected with Dawson Brown for a 13-yard touchdown pass. Loftin's PAT attempt was blocked by Hill and the score remained 14-6 with 8:54 to play in the first half.

The Wolves would tie the game on its next possession.

They moved 63 yards in 10 plays with Clark hitting Rasaad Sawyer for a 16-yard scoring pass on a fourth and 4 play. Clark would then find Malik Heath for a 2-point conversion pass and the game was tied 14-14 with 3:14 left in the second quarter.

It stayed that way until the fourth quarter.

Webb's run would cap a 56-yard, nine-play march. In the drive, Barnum hit Watts for a 15-yard completion on second and 24 and then found Grandberry for a 10-yard completion and a crucial first down on third and 9. Thompson's extra point gave the Bobcats a 21-14 lead with 7:42 to play.

The Wolves would then drive to the Jones' 27, but would turn the ball over on downs with 4:24 remaining.

The Bobcats then picked up a pair of first downs, but would face a fourth and 13 at the Co-Lin 45-yard line with 22 seconds to play.

Punter Greg Hayden (Vicksburg) came on the field to boot the ball away. But he took the snap and took off to his left. He ran 28 yards all the way to the Wolves' 17-yard line where he was knocked out of bounds. Barnum would take a knee to end the game.

Jones hosts East Central at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field. The game will air on JCJC.TV, SuperTalk WLAU-FM, 99.3, and www.supertalklaurel.com with Mark Easley and Chuck Robertson on the call.

Co-Lin, 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the division, ends its season at Southwest on Oct. 26.
