Meridian Eagles Complete Perfect Weekend

 The #4 Meridian Community College Baseball team picked up another pair of wins Saturday. The Eagles played Spoon River College in game one and Coastal Alabama Community College. The Eagles picked up the win in game one 8-2 and 7-0 in game two.


The Eagles fell behind early in game one. The Snappers of Spoon River College scored one in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. The Eagles would respond with two in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. Davis Ferguson had the big hit in the inning with a two rbi single to put the Eagles ahead 2-1.


The Eagles would add another run in the second courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Markarius Lee. The Eagles stretched the lead to 5-1 in the 4th inning. Jean Torres had the big hit in the inning with a rbi double. Logan Stewart added a sacrifice fly to drive in Torres to give the Eagles the 5-1 lead.


Colton Hipp got things started in the bottom of the fifth. Hipp lined a double in the gap to lead off the inning. Kace Garner followed that up with a two-run homer to right field to give the Eagles a 7-1 lead. The Eagles added a run in the sixth courtesy of a Lee double.


Keegan Westbrook led the Eagles to victory on the hill. He lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and one run while striking out six and walking one. Tyler Lantz threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Lantz had four strikeouts and no walks.


The Eagles got off to a fast start in game two. The Eagles scored a run in the top of the first. Lee led things off with an infield single and scored a sacrifice fly from Hipp. The Eagles continued the scoring in the second. Davis Ferguson got things started with a single. The Eagles would load the bases with Lee coming to the plate. Lee blasted a grand slam to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead.


The Eagles would add a pair of runs in the third. Hipp got things started with a leadoff single. He would steal second and come around to score on a single from Ferguson. This would bring the Eagles lead to 7-0 which would be the final score.


Austin Allen picked up the win for the Eagles. He threw four innings of scoreless ball. Allen had five strikeouts and allowed only one walk. Briar Russell, Jeffrey Griffin, and Austin Allen each threw one scoreless inning in relief.


With the wins, the Eagles improve to 6-2 on the season. The Eagles will be back in action Friday, March 8 against Nunez Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00.
